France: Paris Daytrips, Alsace & Champagne.France: Paris Daytrips, Alsace & Champagne
Chock full of practical advice for those actually intending to visit France, this video will entertain vicarious travelers as well. Series host Rick Steves is joined by his Francophile friend Steve Smith in this 50-minute four-day tour of Paris and the northeastern regions of Alsace and Champagne. Steves provides generous dollops of history (i.e., “Here’s where Louis the XIV lost his head,” “Here’s where Hitler marched”) while the camera takes in current scenery. The usual highlights of Paris–Arc de Triomphe, Eiffel Tower–are covered, and you go on a jaunt through the city’s famed underground sewer system and a market trip down Rue Cler with the owner of one of Smith’s favorite restaurants.
